Theodor Seuss Geisel was an American writer, poet, and cartoonist most widely known for his children's books written under the pen name Dr. Seuss.
For most of us Dr. Seuss holds a very special place in our hearts. From early on in our education, Dr. Seuss taught us through his beloved children’s stories, from Green Eggs and Ham to The Cat in the Hat. Not many of us know that there was a different side to Dr. Seuss, one that is embedded within World War II propaganda.

Due to the fame of his children's books and because his political cartoons have really remained unknown, most Americans do not think of Dr. Seuss as a political cartoonist. However, from the years of 1941 to 1943, he was the chief editorial cartoonist for the New York newspaper PM and he drew hundreds of editorial cartoons, many of which dealt with World War II propaganda.
A book written in 2001 by Richard H. Minear called Dr. Seuss Goes to War: The World War II Editorial Cartoons of Theodor Seuss Geisel contains many of these political cartoons created during World War II.
